A vivid memory of those early days was sitting in traffic on the old A5, having the pressure cooker as a pillow in a packed-high yellow Hillman Hunter car.
Gregg, on the other hand, was a bit more posh! He was brought up on caravanning along with his three sisters. Gregg’s golden thread connected him to Anglesey many years before Alison’s: his grandparents, George and Ivy Newell, started their holidays on Anglesey in 1958 and fell in love with the stunning island.
Gregg’s Mum and Dad, Marion and Norman, also followed that irresistible golden thread, and alternated between caravanning and having their own holiday homes. Gregg would spend full summer holidays on the island and return to school with a pink freckled nose and stories of deserted beaches, campfires and glow worms underfoot (yes, you can see glow worms in the summer on Anglesey, maybe even at Dulas Meadow!)
Gregg’s sister met her future husband on one such long lazy summer – Anglesey has a magical way of bringing people together for life – perhaps it wraps them in that golden thread, a bond that can never be broken?
Casting back to their sun-freckled memories, Alison and Gregg feel that they must have crossed paths when they stayed at the old Plas Coch site, which was a bit different to the stately affair it is today. Alison would have been in her uncle’s caravan at the time – perhaps she climbed trees or ran with Gregg and the other kids down to the Menai Strait, little knowing how their paths would entwine, and eventually tie the knot, many years from then.
Now married, Alison and Gregg brought four boys up, racing to Anglesey whenever they could on a thankfully-improved A55. Skinny dipping in Llaneillian Bay and picnics on every headland for miles around, the draw to this beautiful place continued.
Both Alison and Gregg have been busy entrepreneurs and run a few businesses between them. Alison also has a business partner and friend with whom she has established a successful training business. But the daydreams of living on Anglesey would not go away. The island kept calling, until something had to be done. It was time to think about LIVING THE DREAM. A piece of land was purchased. A large field with tumbledown house and rushing river.
There has been much digging, so much mud, so many backaches and blisters. Long cold days where the place looked like it was never coming together. And now we are proud to share the more beautiful part of this journey with you by welcoming you to our beautiful Dulas Meadow.
With enough space for five motorhomes (no caravans, as they won’t fit up the tiny lane, sorry) and ten tents, our little Anglesey campsite has been designed with that touch of luxury in mind. And no draughty showerblock: Alison had quite enough of that when she was young, thank you very much!
During our first year we were certified by the Camping and Caravanning Club, a long-standing excellent Certified Site provider.
This second year we are certified by Wild Trails Camping Club who promote local charities and leisure activities. Being certified with WTCC, we can open our site to charitable events and have a more varied offering of units available for our campers.
We look forward to welcoming you to our dream.
